New Quality Control Regulating department for Ayurvedic and Tradition Medicine...

On Tuesday, Health Minister said, “Govt. is planning to introduce a new quality control regulator department for ayurvedic and tradition medicines.” New department will look after the development and research for traditional medicines, monitor the quality of medicine and standardized the manufacturing of ayurvedic and traditional medicine to the international level.

Ayurvedic Medicines

Govt. has allocated Rs. 5000 crore to the new ayush mission in 12^th five year plan. As alternative medicine sector is reaching at level of estimated USD100 billion at global market, the country will get a new set up for quality control and regulation in Ayurvedic and traditional medicines.

If we believe at sources, Govt. is also aiming to offer 30 traditional medicines to all its citizens. India is home for ayurvedic and traditional system of medicine but worldwide presence of India in this section is negligible.

Health minister also said that under AYUSH mission, the government would provide funding support to states wanting set up manufacturing facilities. Government is also willing to support tradition ayurvedic manufacturers so they can meet with international standards.

If we talk about global share of India in international market in respect to alternative treatment and traditional system – that is negligible. China has captured a huge share in international market but where is India’s position.

Western countries are promoting yoga and herbal products, but in India, we are forgetting our traditional systems. Govt.’s step is appreciable but it will take long time to take it to international level.

Only few ayurvedic or traditional medicine’s Indian companies have international face. Ayush which states Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidha and Homoepathic sytem of medicine may be new ray of hope.

Time will say – how effective will be government’s policies toward traditional system of Medicines.
